The financial pressure at Constantinople is believed to be becoming
extreme. The revenue is coming in very badly ; the Loan-mongers of Constantinople are alarmed ; and the cost of the incessant movement of troops is very great. The expenses of the Palace, which are enormous, are, it is said, being de- frayed from a reserve fund, and the pressure for arrears is increasing the festering mass of discontent. The Turkish Government usually survives such crises; but the occasion would seem to be a favourable one for capitalising the tribute paid for Cyprus.
