Mr. Blake on Tuesday moved to abolish the freedom from
arrest for debt enjoyed by Peers and Members of Parliament. He held that the privilege was of no value, and that all men should be equal before the law ; and will therefore, we hope, bring in a Bill abolishing the exemption of Members from the obligation to serve on juries. That will bring about a speedy reform of the Jury system. The general feeling of the House. appeared to be that the privilege was an anachronism ; but Mr. Cross wished the decision suspended until the question had been con- sidered by the Committee on the Bankruptcy Bill, and, the motion was therefore defeated, by 128 to 111.
