THE GAS INDUSTRY.
At the meeting held this week of the Wandsworth, Wim- bledon and Epsom District Gas Company, the Chairman, after referring to the agreement for amalgamation with the Sutton Gas Company, went on to refer to the Gas industry generally, and said he felt more confident than ever with regard to its future prospects. If, said Mr. Frank Jones, neither favour nor hindrances were put in the way of development and the industry continued under competent management, gas companies would certainly prosper and fulfil a definite purpose in the national life. In referring to the reduction in the use of gas in certain houses by some authorities and emphasising the injustice, Mr. Jones mentioned the fact that just recently the L.C.C. had resolved to allow gas and electricity to compete on level terms for all purposes in their houses. He expressed the hope that other authorities would be as fair and statesmanlike.
