[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—In common with your

correspondent " Thistle " I strongly object to the use of "England" and "English" when reference is obviously to Great Britain or to things British. I am proud to call myself an Englishman, but prouder still to be a son of the British Empire.—I am, Sir, ROSE.
