THE PREDICTIONS OF NOSTRADAMUS
SIR,—Having studied La Fin de notre Slide d'apres Nostradamus, by Maurice Privat, published last year, I was interested in the article by James Laver which appeared in your last issue on Nostradamus. I wish, however, that he had quoted the remarkable quatrain, which certainly applies to the League of Nations. It is as follows: "Du lac Leman les sermons fascheront
Des fours seront reduicts par des semaines
Puis mois, puis an, taus defailliront, Les magistrats damneront leurs lois vainest' (I, xlvii.) Maurice Privat devotes a paragraph to it on page 94 in his book.— [This quatrain is usually applied to Rousseau, Voltaire and the French Revolution.—En., The Spectator.]
