A meeting was held in Edinburgh on Monday, to take into considera-
tion the state of the poor generally in Scotland, and especially in Edin- burgh. The Lord Provost presided, and several of the most influential persons in the Scottish capitul attended the meeting. It was resolved to form an Association to collet and diffuse information relative to Pauperism in Scotland, and to obtain the attention of the Legislature to the subject.
Tuesday being the day recommended by the Commission of the General Assembly to he set apart as a day of humiliation and prayer on account of the present position of the (Murcia, there was service in the city churches in the afternoon and evening.—Sceitish Standard.
Lord Abercromby is dangerously ill. He was attacked by apoplexy on Thursday week, and is not expected to recover. In the event of his decease, Colonel Abercromby will become a Peer, and a vacancy will occur in another Scotch eounty—Stirlingshire.
