The Turkish correspondent of the Times confirms the statement that
the Russians are deliberately driving the Cireassians into Turkey in order to depopulate their mountains. They appear to be driven down to the shores of the Black Sea by force, and if the `Turks are to protect them they must raise a loan of 1,500,0001., which would probably be stolen by the Pashas. Could not the British Government help a few of these men ? A couple of Circassian regiments would be very useful indeed in India, and would form precisely the force at this moment required at Ceylon.
