EAST INDIA SHIPPING. FRIDAY EVENING.
During a violent gale from the east on Tuesday, the General Palmer from Madras for London, slipped from two anchors in Margate Roads, and was run ashore on the mud at Whitstable. She was immediately supplied with anchors and cables from Mm-gate ; a steam vessel has been despatched to her assistance froni the river, and she is expected to be floated off without having sustained material injury. On the same evening the Mountaineer, Shea!, from the Cape of Good Hope to Lon- don, was driven ashore at Deal, and totally wrecked. Her pilot, a Deal boatman, and two seamen were drowned. A portion of her cargo, which consisted chiefly of wine, lies been saved.
On Tuesday night also, the Caesar from London to Madras and Bengal, drove from her anchor at Spitbead, but brought up again, and rode out the gale in safety.
Some anxiety has been expressed for the arrival of the Timandra from Batavia. She is stated to have leftthat port on the 5th June with a cargo of rice for Antwerp.
