draws some capital characters. We confess we do not understand
Margaret Keith, but George Keith is a fine character, and his stern moral sense, his deep feelings, and his temporary blindness to the awakening of his wife's love, are all carefully worked out, and make, indeed, an impressive portrait of a noble man. Margaret's flirtation with Dalrymple, which leads to her flight, seems to us a weak point in an otherwise readable and well- planned novel.
