Sir: It is interesting that there are two ladies in the West Country who have never heard of Mr Jeffrey Bernard (Letters, 21 October), but remarkable that they should chance to meet at a theatre. It is all very different in the metropolis. I recently overheard a customer in a supermarket ask for 'Low life milk'. To my regret she was not directed to the vodka.

In view of the play's success may we look forward to Mr Leo McKern appearing in Auberon Waugh is on Holiday?
