We regret to say that as we go to press

on Thursday evening comes the news that Mr. Asquith has announced in the Commons that there are indications of the spread of the Irish revolt, especially in the West. That is of course unfortunate, but we shall be greatly surprised if any large proportion of the Irish population joins the insurgents.
