From Jeremy Bartle
Sir: In his column (And another thing, 22 January) Paul Johnson writes with reference to Auschwitz, ‘There is no possibility of the public ever being in danger of forgetting it.’ I may be a little out of touch with current affairs in the UK, living as I do in Thailand, but BBC World recently broadcast the results of a poll commissioned by the BBC, which found that 60 per cent of people in the UK under the age of 35 had never heard of Auschwitz. This would seem to suggest that, contrary to Mr Johnson’s opinion, there is a great danger of the public forgetting it.
