Smith, M.A. (Edinburgh : Edmond= and Douglas.)—Of the contents of this volume Mr. Smith says modestly, "They are simply ordinary congregational lectures, which have had the misfortune to be denounced as containing heretical doctrine." We confess that we have not been able to detect any heresy in them, but much that is good; and though their author's modesty is not wholly misplaced, we have no hesitation in saying that they attain a most reportable average of merit.
