Number conundrum

From Louise O'Connor Sir: I was always hopeless at maths, especially fractions, so ever since reading Caroline Moore's review of Rosamond Lehmann by Selina Hastings (Books, 15 June) I have been racking my brains, trying to work out how Rosamond Lehmann could possibly have been 'the middle child of the family of four', Which number is the middle of four?
