best. The con- duct of Frank Fisher in coming back to the scene of his supposed crime is very extraordinary, to say the least. The whole tale
seems quite remote from ordinary human experience. Some of the other stories are much better. If the " Colonel " is a cari- cature of the man from the Far West, he is a very amusing one.
