AN IMPROVING POSITION.
I am glad to note that the financial recovery which has been proceeding in Australia is finding some reflection in the profit- earning power of Goode, Durrant and Murray Limited. At the annual meeting of shareholders last Monday, the Chair- man, Mr. William E. Pennick, was able to state that during the past year the improvement in earnings had been such as to enable the Board to recommend a further paymeni-on:Itcamnt
of arrears of the Preference dividend. This result, the Chair- . man stated, had been achieved in spite of a continuance of somewhat difficult trading conditions. Referring to conditions in Australia, Mr. Pennick expressed the opinion that, provided present ruling prices for that country's primary products were maintained at a fair level, there was reason to expect even more prosperous times, in which the company should share.
