THE WEST INDIES.
Dunkirk, 25th September 1865. Sir Arthur Rumbold presents his compliments to the editor of the Spectator, and feels it to be a public duty to corroborate the statements which he has read with much interest in the columns of the Spectator rela- tive to Jamaica, and signed by a "Friend to the West India Colonies." Sir Arthur served for several years in the mountains of Jamaica, and considers it a most healthy climate for Europeans; and Sir Arthur having paid much attention to the cultivation of the minor products of the West Indies, such as fibres, feels persuaded that a vast field for profitable commercial enterprise may be there developed.
