Tried a second time at Tralee, Daniel Sullivan, one of
the Phoenix Club conspirators, was yesterday found gully and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude.
One of the engineers of the Bogota, .Tames William Mitchell, was con- victed yesterday at the Liverpool Assizes of the manslaughter of Thomas Lander, a stoker, and sentenced to fifteen years' penal servitude. The case was fully proved'. Lander was a miner, who to work his passage home en- gaged himself as stoker on board the Bogota. He found the duty too ex- hausting in the tropics, and offered to pay for a substitute. Believing he was shirking, the engineers, Buchanan and Mitchell, caused him to be tied ID ladder sitbin a few feet of the furnaces, and kept him roasting there
until he was nearly dead. He died on deck. Buchanan, the other crimi- nal, has forfeited his bail.
