Un-Christian

Sir: Malcolm Muggeridge professes to be a Christian, yet his remark about Dame Rebecca West and her husband, reported by Geoffrey Wheatcroft in Notebook (26 March) strikes us as\being singularly un- Christian.

It is gratuitous and unkind of Mr Wheat- croft to repeat this cheap gibe about a very great person who can no longer defend herself. I'm sure that Mr Muggeridge would not enjoy it if Mrs Muggeridge were deaf and someone were to make the same remark about her.
