Sir: I find your suggestion (Diary, 19 March) that the appeal of the Independent lies in its sparse coverage of royal events less convincing than one advanced recently by a friend. His theory was that taking the Independent was like getting the Spectator every day.
Mysteriously, however, I found that he reads Times.
