SIR.—Mr. N. J. Hawkins states that 'It does not matter

that Nansen did not believe in God, for he showed by his actions what it was to be a true Christian.' If I, as an Englishwoman, approve of the way Nansen carried on. does that make him a true Englishman? And if I stated that it did, would I be conferring an honour upon him?
