Sir: Mrs Yvonne Brock (Letters, 26 January) supports Mr Heifer's

Bill to prohibit live hare coursing. Without wishing to comment on the sub- ject of hare coursing itself, I note with interest that Mr Helfer was one of the MPS who voted for the Abortion Act. Many prominent figures of the British left hold the same views on the two topics. Apparently in their brave new world the hare will have greater protection than the human foetus.

If abortion were a blood-sport of the English landed gentry I wonder how many left-wingers would wish to ban it.
