Professor Bernard Moses, of the University of California, is already
known as a high authority on the history of The Spanish Dependencies in South America (Smith, Elder, and Co., 2 vols., 21s. net). In this learned and interesting work he deals with the middle period of Spanish rule in South America—the period which is marked by the organization and development of political societies dependent on Spain, and which may be said ronghly to extend from 1550 to 1730. His book is one of the most important contributions yet made to the history of civilization in South America.
