The journalistic description of Lady Grant, M.P., who has just
become engaged to Lord Tweedsmuir, as " the most photogenic member of the House of Commons " sent me forthwith to the Oxford Dictionary—not that I doubted what the writer meant his adjective to mean, but that I wanted to be perfectly clear about what it actually does mean. The definitions are (appropriately) illuminating. Lady Grant, on this showing, is " produced or caused by light," which I doubt ; or alternatively is " producing or emitting light, luminiferous." If the writer meant that—which he quite certainly,
did not—I am with him entirely.
