a very compact volume in which M. Lanson has contrived to give a vast amount of information. Its pages, taking the text proper only, number 1,088, and there are 70 more, occupied with chronological tables, an index, and a table of con- tents. Yet the book—so excellent are both paper and printing— is not inconveniently bulky. A more compendious and convenient manual it would not be easy to find.
