the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] Snt,—There is now in preparation, for publication in 1932, an edition of the letters of Sir Walter V Scott—published and unpublished—of which Professor H. J. C. Grierson of -the University of Edinburgh is acting as general editor:
An urgent appeitl is hereby made to all owners ofScott letters in original to supply, verbatim transcripts of , these letters or, if they prefer, to signify their willingness to send- the originals to the National- Library at Edinburgh to be-
copied and returned. - - In response to the one public appeal hitherto made, num- erous replies have already been received, foremost amongst them a series of transcripts from the Librarian of the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, who is kind enough to say that he is authorized to give permission to reprint them. , Copies of letters and other communications may be addressed either to Professor Grierson at Edinburgh University, or To
