The real target
Sir: Far from hitting the City (`Mammon cheats the bomb', 17 February), the Provi- sionals' real target was surely the national media — far better for getting the message across. Gone are the metaphors of previous wars and notions of being 'bombed into submission'. The Provisionals realise, like most modern warriors, that bombs mean column inches, and military campaigns have been replaced — in part — by media strategies. Wars are won and lost in the media, not on the battlefield.
What better to hit than Docklands, home to only one or two City institutions but most of the national media?
