Mr. Churchill now came to his reductions in taxation. His
proposal to reduce the Super Tax by an amount equal to the £10,000,000 extra Death Duties, took the House entirely by surprise. Next he announced 6d. off the Income Tax—the standard rate to be reduced from 4s. 6d. to 4s. Moreover, the relief to " earned " income would be increased from a deduction of one-tenth to a deduction of one-sixth provided that the maximum deduction should not exceed £250.
