SIR,—The answer to Miss Rose Macaulay's question is that many
people still look upon Sunday as the Sabbath. Therefore all amuse- ment or recreation on that day is wrong. The Maltese people, I think, are more Christian and more sensible. They go to mass in the morning, attend the opera or play games in the afternoon, and attend Church again in the evening.
To many people in this country the issue lies between the Jewish Sabbath and a glorified Bank Holiday—Yours faithfully,
