Sir: Why is it that few people, even writers, seemingly know the difference between `sucking' and 'suckling'? Reference is made in the review of the Diaries of Auberon Waugh (Books, 12 October) to a meal of 'suckling pig'. This could weigh five hundredweight and make poor eating.
