RIDER HAGGARD
SIR,—It seems to me that your contributor Neal Ascherson may have made a slight misstatement in his article 'He' when he asserts that Rider Haggard after his second novel The Witch's Head 'never wrote intensively about Norfolk society again.' He certainly wrote a later novel which was entirely devoted to Norfolk country society called Colonel Quaritch, V.C. It is many years since I read this book, but I always thought that it was an extremely interesting and attractive story.—Yours faithfully,
