Not Jeff's friend
Sir: I have been traduced (Low life, 5 August).
At Michael Andrews' funeral I was sum- moned by Jeff Bernard. I said, 'I read your column this morning' by way of a greeting. I turned aside, looked at the church and said, 'Bloody awful.'
If Jeff had been a friend of mine rather than an acquaintance, or if he had been less egocentric, he would have realised that I was referring to the death of a man more talented and nicer than either Jeff or I. Charles Campbell
