more definite and more accurate information is available, but we may record once more our deep regret that the formal year's notice (if such is really necessary) to put an end to the Treaty was not given by UB simultaneously with the acceptance of President Harding's invitation. As it is, the appearance of a continued alliance with Japan—it is, of course, now no more than an appearance— will continually hamper us and put us in a false position.
