JUST WHAT we need: Son of Hyman. Some found Joe Hyman temperamental he could hurl a mean inkwell — when ICI set him to re-organise the textile industry and lent him its cheque book for the pur- pose. 'A fool can throw a stone into a pond', Justin Kornberg reflected, 'and ten wise men can't get it out.' Predictably, Joe and ICI quarrelled, and the story ended in a spectacular boardroom explosion. Now here comes Joe's son Howard, recruited by Charterhouse, the investment bankers, as managing director and business-getter in Europe. Some find him aggressive and prickly. When an airline refused him his favourite seat, he made such a scene that he was given the spare seat on the flight- deck. That's Daddy's boy — but Joe would have insisted on flying the plane.
