Damian Elwes was born in London in 1960 and is the son and grandson of portrait painters (Dominic and Simon Elwes). At Scream, 34 Bruton Street, London Wl, is Artists' Studios, an exhibition of paintings by Damian Elwes which detail where Duchamp, Dail, Kahlo, Picasso (see above), Matisse, Gauguin, Rodin, Monet and Cezanne worked. He has researched these artists and recreated their studios with great accuracy, assembling references which include their notebooks, drawings and other artistic paraphernalia. Elwes now lives in Santa Monica, California (he studied literature at Harvard), having spent some seven years in a remote area of southern Colombia with his wife and children. The exhibition runs until 14 July. EA
