SIR,—The Laski phrase quoted by Brian Inglis (March 2) was
slightly different: I heard it used by Laski in Dublin at the College Historical Society. He appealed to an earlier speaker, a Professor of History, who had made a facetious pretence of being unaware of what went on in the modern world, to look about him 'before lapsing back into that state of resentful coma which the universities call research.'—Yours faithfully,
