Coram's legacy
Sir: The admirable activities and record of the Thomas Coram Foundation listed in Colin Masters's letter (23 February) have been badly served by the repercussions, locally and nationally, of the closure of the Children's Centre.
The chief question — one that Mr Masters carefully avoids answering — is what is to become of the site? What are the `improved facilities for children' which, according to Mr Masters, the trustees have in mind? Local talk has it that a valued and successful neighbourhood school will be replaced by offices to be put at the disposal of various children's charities. What is the true position? Rumour and negative pub- licity do an injustice to Captain Thomas Coram's legacy.
