The morning papers report the proceedings of a very interesting

meeting which took place in the City yesterday. The Directors of the New Zea- land Company met the Proprietors, to consider the expediency of "wind- ing up." After a long discussion, it was unanimously resolved that this step shall be taken, unless Sir Robert Peel fulfil during the present session his promises of last year; which, it seems, he has done nothing to realize. The cause of the delay appears to be Mr. Gladstone, who cannot make up his mind to give effect to Sir Robert Peel's views, until he learn what Cap- tain Grey, the new Governor, thinks of them. It is a perfect case of fob- bing-off by the Colonial Office. The Directors' Report will be found in -our Supplement; and we purpose returning to the subject next week, more a:specially with reference to a remarkable and (considering the state of parties) very significant speech by Mr. Charles Buller, recommending or- earned union among the Colonial interests, in order to obtain local self- _government for the Colonies,—in other words, an Anti-Colonial-Office League!
