The Quaternary Ice Age. By W. B. Wright. (Macmillan and

Co. 17s. net.)—This learned volume represents the study of a lifetime. Mr. Wright, who is attached to the Geological Survey of Ireland, began with the intention of supplying a guide to the study of glacial geology—a subject which has made such vast strides in recent years that only the specialist can keep abreast of it. He was led, however, in the course of his work, to incorporate new ideas of his own, especially in regard to the isostatic theory of the Quaternaty oscillations of sea-level. Whatever may be the fate of these ideas with technical critics, we think that the general reader with a bent for science will welcome this well-arranged and lucid treatise.
