The most recent accounts from the Red Sea represent the
coun- try, on its eastern shores, as a prey to the most frightful distress. Scurvy, fever, and cholera morbus rage there. The cholera was particularly dreaded, as the strongest and healthiest men were carria off in twelve hours. At Mecca, and in the Hadee country, 45,000 souls were carried off by it in a month. Violent rains have caused great damage in Arabia. Half of Suez has been washed away.
