From Field Marshal Sir Nigel Bagnall Sir: I am afraid that your abbreviation of my article (`The case against Guthrie', 24 March) has unbalanced it, since I originally said far more about the achievements of the army than I did about Sir Charles Guthrie. Though I think he has not done what he could have done for the services, it was never my intention to make 'the case against him', as your headline suggested.
