A Phenologist's Prophecy Those ingenious persons who label themselves as
phenologists, because they study the dates and correlations of appearances, may like to take cognizance of a certain West Countryman's annual prophecy. He is a great observer of all country events, and incidentally an ardent fisherman. He avers that for a generation or more the mayfly always appears at the moment of the flowering of a particular rhododendron bush in the garden of his farmhouse. Incidentally, one of the newer species (Clementine) is illustrated in colour in the latest issue of Curtis's Botanical Magazine, now edited by Sir Arthur Hill.
