Design for the times

I looked in the window of Heal's, the smart- furniture furniture shop, and saw five clocks on display. They had been given one of the Council of Industrial Design awards, and very smart they looked, too. You could tell that they were working, because the second-hands were all going round. They all told different times, but who wants to know what the time is so long as the clock looks pretty?
