But Mr. Marriott Watson's manner is excellent. One great merit

of the story is its absolute clearness. We realise without difficulty

the action from beginning to end. And then there is the vivid personality of the actors. Holgate is a quite masterly study, a villain of real genius, who goes out in a perfect blaze of his own peculiar kind of glory.
