We have dwelt elsewhere on the signs which indicate that
the rank-and-file of the Unionist Party are beginning to show un- easiness at the apparent determination of the Unionist leaders to keep the flag of Protection flying at all costs. We will only say here that we are convinced that unless the policy of Protection is abandoned by the party, it will experience the fate of the Liberals when they refused to accept the much less emphatic verdict registered against Home-rule in 1886.
