We believe that up to the present time no successor
has been appointed to Sir Thomas Wilde in the office of Solicitor-General. It is said in the Courts this morning, that Mr. Dundas, Mr. Austin, Mr. S. Sharpe of the Chancery bar, and several other learned gentlemen, have had the appointment offered to 'them; but under the present prospects of the (still existing) Government the proffered honour in every case has been respectfully declined.—Correspondent of the Standard, July 3.
