of the Republic. In' Lisbon the triumph of the

Government was complete, the sum total of votes cast for the thirty-four unofficial candidates for election amounting to barely two-thirds of those cast in favour of the last of the twenty nominees of the Directory. At the same time it appears that only 63 per cent. of the voters on the register went to the poll.
