Sta,—In the Spectator of May 27th Mr. H. Martyn Sanders writes as follows: "The Apostle to the Gentiles held the ancient Jewish view of the female sex as the inferiors and chattels of men." What St. Paul actually wrote is as follows: "The wife does not rule over her own body, but the husband does ; likewise the husband does not rule over his own body, but the wife does" (I Corinthians vii. 4). "In the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor man or woman." (I Corinthians xi; 11).
