UNSETTLING INFLUENCES.

Wrra the war in the Far East and the financial crisis in the- United States, it is certainly not surprising that business in the stock markets should have been severely restricted during the past week. Once again, in 'fact, international influences are making the whole outlook hopelessly obscure. It may well be that the crisis in the United States was something which was bound to occur before the situation in that country could really improve, but 'for the' moment one thing that is evident' is the gravity of the crisis and the difficulty of telling .piecisely what 'may be its reactions in Other parts of. the world. Almost every department of the Stock Exchange 'fi-as been affected, and even gilt-edged securities, notwithstanding the ease of money, have not been too firm,.
