Have a heart

Sir: With reference to Bernard Dixon's article (February 17), which recounts the fatuous presumptions that man can outwit Nature, by trying to replace the damaged organs of the body after the owner has done them irreparable harm: • the evidence for securing a healthy body with healthy organs is now so well documented, that it only remains for the Department of Education to include a comprehensive programme of biochemistry in the schools' curriculum; and for everyone to follow the sensible and simple rules of adjusting their diet when growth anabolism has been completed, for them to make, "the mechanical heart . . . a worthless antique . . ." now.

It has been said before, and in truth, we in this country do not have a National Health Service, but a 'National Sickness Service '. When will Health Education begin?.
